Metal Guide

Your Jewellery Metal Guide

Read along to learn about the different metals we carry—what they are, how they wear, and which might be best for you.

Sterling Silver (.925 Silver)

Our everyday favourite. If you love white metals, chances are you already have some sterling silver in your collection. It’s durable, classic, and perfect for everyday wear.

The number .925 means the piece is 92.5% pure silver, with the remaining 7.5% usually made up of copper to strengthen the metal.

Allergy Note:
If you have extremely sensitive skin (e.g. a rash from just holding silver), you may want to look for rhodium-plated sterling silver. The rhodium layer provides a protective barrier against trace amounts of nickel that may exist in some sterling silver alloys—typically vintage or older pieces. Most modern silver uses copper as the alloy.

10K & 14K Solid Gold

Solid gold is timeless. It can be worn every day and lasts a lifetime—it will never lose its colour.

We carry both 10 karat and 14 karat gold (not to be confused with carat, which measures gemstones!).

  • 14K gold = 14 parts pure gold, 10 parts alloy

  • 10K gold = 10 parts pure gold, 14 parts alloy

The higher the karat, the softer and more malleable the gold. But that doesn’t mean lower karats are "lesser"—the added alloys actually make them more durable for everyday wear.

14K Gold-Filled

An amazing and affordable alternative to solid gold.

Gold-filled jewellery starts with a brass base that is fused with a thick layer of 14K gold, then plated in 14K gold again to create a rich, long-lasting finish. It wears beautifully and can last for years with proper care.

Gold Vermeil

A longer-lasting alternative to traditional gold plating.

Our vermeil is a thick layer of 22K gold plated over sterling silver, which means no brass base and no green skin. It's water-safe (freshwater only) and a great option for everyday wear.

22K Yellow Gold Plated

When you see something in our collection described as plated in 22K yellow gold, here’s what it means:

All of our plated pieces have a sterling silver base, so they won’t look brassy or turn your skin green.

We use high-quality 22K gold plating, which gives the piece a brighter, warmer tone compared to 14K. These pieces are beautiful, affordable, and long-lasting—especially when cared for properly.

Note: 22K plating is warmer in tone than our 14K gold-filled pieces, so keep that in mind if mixing metals.
